Let the Games Begin…Book Review: The Hunger Games

By Kristy L.

The Hunger Games is dubbed by many as the best book they’ve ever read. This incredible tale that Suzanne Collins has cooked up tells the remarkable story of a girl named Katniss living in a place called Panem which is in the ruins of what used to be North America.

The cruel government sends two kids from each of their twelve districts to fight to their deaths on television…every year. When Katniss’s sister, Prim, is chosen to go fight in the Hunger Games, Katniss takes her place. The other contestant from District 12 is Peeta Mellark, the baker’s son, who claims to be in love with Katniss. Their supposed love becomes the essential key to their survival in the game arena.  But will love prevail?

This exciting, wonderful story full of action and adventure has won many awards such as the California Young Reader Material award and The New York Times award for “Notable Children’s Book of 2008”.

The two other books concluding The Hunger Games trilogy are Catching Fire and  Mockingjay.

The Hunger Games is so amazing that they even made a movie out of it. It stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne.

The soundtrack for the movie has already been released, and many famous artists have contributed to it. Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars have worked together to compose the song “Safe and Sound” for the soundtrack. (Click on Safe above to hear it.)

The movie was just released on March 23, by Lionsgate Entertainment. If you haven’t already read The Hunger Games, head on over to your local library or bookstore to read this action packed book!
