Teaching Runs In The Turner Family

By Karin S.

Do you like the color pink? Well, so does Mrs. Wendy Turner!

Turner, a Sixth Grade Math and Science Teacher, attended Torrance High School and joined the Soccer and Softball Team. After she graduated from THS, she attended UC Irvine and joined the Soccer Team.  She then earned a Teaching Credential.

Most kids don’t know that Turner has a mother, sister, and husband that are all teachers!  Her husband, Ollie, is the Head Baseball Coach at THS and has been an influence on several young people heading to major careers in sports.  He is also a Math Teacher.

This is Turner’s third year teaching here at RMS.  Before she came to RMS, she spent nine years at Calle Mayor.  At Calle, Turner worked with her sister who is a teacher there as well.

Turner’s most favorite thing about teaching is seeing the kids get excited to learn. Turner’s all time pet peeve is when kids don’t try.

When Turner isn’t at school teaching, she likes to spend time with her family and attend her kids’ sporting events.

Turner enjoys watching the shows, Grey’s Anatomy and Survivor.  Travel is also a favorite pasttime of hers. Her favorite vacation spot is a beautiful beach resort called Turks and Caicos. She is an adventurous eater.  She enjoys eating everything and is willing to try anything.

Students enjoy Turner as a teacher.

“She is nice and helps with a lot of stuff. She is able to explain everything to you. I like the Smart Board and the chalk board,” said Sixth Grader Sydney M.

Next time you see Turner make sure you check out her nails.  I bet they will be pink!
